About
Carl Suchy & Söhne is an independent watch brand from Vienna with a legacy dating back to 1822. Founded by Carl Suchy, the company became the most important watchmaker of the Danube monarchy and a trusted supplier to the imperial court. Its success led to the establishment of stores and workshops in Prague, Vienna, and La Chaux-de-Fonds. Its clientele included figures such as Sigmund Freud and Empress Elisabeth of Austria, who valued the brand for its innovative design and exceptional quality.
In 2017, Carl Suchy & Söhne was revived by Robert Punkenhofer and Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, bringing new life to this remarkable heritage. Today, the brand stands for Viennese tradition combined with modern watchmaking. Its timepieces are conceived in Vienna and carefully manufactured in Austria and Switzerland. At the heart of the brand lies a distinct approach to horology, shaped by Vienna’s intellectual and cultural heritage. It is this unique expression of Viennese watchmaking and design that sets each Carl Suchy & Söhne timepiece apart.
Values & Core Principles
Our values define who we are and guide every timepiece we create.
-
We believe in attention to detail. That’s why Carl Suchy & Söhne works with leading Austrian and Swiss manufacturers, including movement makers such as partner Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. This ensures every watch and clock meets the highest standards. Our watchmakers combine tradition with innovation, making sure every component carries the signature of skilled hands. From intricate wristwatches with rotating seconds discs or wandering date windows to table clocks with our in-house tourbillon movements, each creation reflects our commitment to making things that last for generations.
-
Design is at the heart of everything we do. Inspired by Viennese Modernism, each timepiece follows a clear logic, where dials, cases, and details are carefully considered. Minimalist forms are enriched with subtle Suchy Twists that give character and emotion. Each model is part of a curated collection, with materials chosen to balance creativity and function.
-
We honor Vienna in every watch we make. Our timepieces reflect the rhythm of the city, from grand ballrooms to the flowing Waltz. References from architecture and culture, from Adolf Loos to the Belvedere Palace, shape the spirit of every collection. Each timepiece carries a piece of Vienna and expresses the city’s way of life.
-
Our watches and clocks are handcrafted in strictly limited numbers. Each year our production reaches close to 250 pieces. They are available only through our Vienna showroom, website, and select retailers who share our approach to independent watchmaking. Bespoke events and private experiences give collectors the chance to connect with our world personally.
SustainabilitY
We are committed to environmental care, quality, and longevity. Our watches and clocks are designed to last, with materials chosen for durability. We encourage repair and maintenance so that every timepiece can be cherished for generations. By supporting local craftsmanship and using sustainable resources, we reduce our impact on the planet while creating objects built to endure.
In recognition of these efforts, Carl Suchy & Söhne received the Butterfly Mark in 2024, an independent certification for sustainability in the luxury industry.
-
From the first design to the final detail, our watches are made with integrity. We work only with artisans and partners who share our values and respect for the craft, ensuring every creation reflects care, skill, and authenticity.
-
People are at the heart of everything we do. We ensure fair working conditions, promote diversity and inclusion, and foster a culture where every contribution is valued. The well-being of everyone involved in making our timepieces is always a priority.
A Word from the CEO
"Sustainability is a core principle at Carl Suchy & Söhne. Our strictly limited annual production reflects our focus on quality over quantity. Every watch and clock we create is a testament to local craftsmanship, produced entirely in Austria and Switzerland in small, carefully managed editions. Production cycles take three to five months and embody our dedication to craftsmanship and excellence at every stage. We are proud of our legacy, with timepieces in our archive still ticking after 200 years."
