With the Waltz N°1 Hoffmann Edition, Carl Suchy & Söhne opens a new chapter within its collection. For the first time, the constructive thinking of Josef Hoffmann is not merely referenced, but systematically translated into mechanics.
The Hoffmann does not follow a decorative motif. Its dial is based on a geometric grid of concentric lines. The numerals 12, 3, 6 and 9 are not applied elements but integral components of this structure, emerging directly from the system itself.
The rotating Waltzing Disc at six o’clock completes the linear composition once every minute. Slender black hands integrate seamlessly into the composition without disrupting its graphic clarity. The geometric structure of the dial also determines the architecture within. The movement mirrors the dial.
The Hoffmann is powered by an ultra thin Calibre CSS-A1 measuring 30 millimetres in diameter and only 2.6 millimetres in height, realised in collaboration with Vaucher Fleurier Manufacture exclusively for Carl Suchy & Söhne.
The ultra thin Calibre CSS-A1, is fully visible through the sapphire case back. Geometrically skeletonised bridges structure the mechanics with clarity and extend the formal principle of the dial into the movement.
Regulation is ensured by a variable inertia balance fitted with gold weights, oscillating at a frequency of 3 Hertz, or 21,600 vibrations per hour, guaranteeing precise adjustment. Winding is achieved via a gold plated decentralised micro rotor integrated into the ultra thin movement architecture and running on ceramic ball bearings.
The finishing reflects the same constructive consistency down to the smallest detail. Perlage on both sides of the mainplate, rhodium plated surfaces, hand bevelled edges, diamond polished countersinks, as well as anthracite NAC coated and geometrically skeletonised bridges emphasise the architectural clarity of the construction.
